North Simcoe Broadband Study conducted in collaboration with municipal and First Nations partners.

The North Simcoe CFDC and partners (Town of Midland, the Town of Penetanguishene, Beausoleil First Nation (Christian Island), the Townships of Springwater, Tay, and Tiny) understand the importance of good broadband Internet service.

In 2018, North Simcoe CFDC and partners launched a broadband gap analysis (BGA) to determine the current broadband service levels available to residents and businesses. By knowing broadband service levels, gaps in service can be identified and solutions developed to address unserved and underserved areas.

Key Findings:

  • The region has a relative ranking in the bottom 25% compared to other regions and cities.
  • The region has a large part of the population that does not yet meet the service standard of 5Mbps download by the year 2015, as identified by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
  • Service to a large portion of residents and businesses does not meet the standard of 50Mbps download identified by the CRTC; the target is 90% of the population by the end of 2021
